Well, Pokemon Sun and Moon come out today. I managed to beat the not-so-legal version last weekend and here are my thoughts on it. I'm keeping it concise and light on spoilers:

The Good

The Characters - The recurring characters in Sun/Moon are better than XY's at least. Prof. Kukui is more involved with your journey than most other professors and Team Skull is probably the most entertaining team yet.

The Graphics - With no more chibi-models, tile-based overworld, or battle circles, the region feels a lot more immersive and so do the battles. I enjoyed all the little details in the environment and especially the new animations for some of the attacks. And Z-moves are especially impressive.

The Difficulty - The Totem battles in the beginning and middle of the game are actually quite a challenge compared to Gym battles from the past few generations. Important trainers also have fully EV-trained Pokemon for the first time ever.

The EXP. Curve - The game gives you an EXP Share near the beginning. Unlike XY where you'll be overleveled if you turn keep it on and underleveled if you turn it off, Sun/Moon uses Gen 5's experience system so high level Pokemon will gain less exp than low level Pokemon when battling the same opponent. This means you'll be pretty evenly matched with your opponents by the time you reach the end.

The Music - It's really good for the most part. My favorite songs include the Team Skull battle theme and two other battle themes, but they're spoilers so I can't actually mention them.

The Not so Good

Small Pokedex - If you exclude the Ultra Beasts and the Alolan Forms, the number of Pokemon introduced in Gen 7 is barely bigger than Gen 6. This is mostly due large number of single-stage Pokemon.

Gen 7 Encounter Rate - You're more likely to encounter Pokemon from older generations than Pokemon from Gen 7. Some of the new Pokemon also happen to be ridiculously hard to find and others can't evolve until almost the end of the game.

Too many cutscenes - The games have more cutscenes than any other game in the series, and your ability to go off and explore new areas is limited until you reach the next cutscene to advance the story.

Framerate Drop - Anytime there are more than 4 characters (Pokemon and trainers) on the screen at the same time, the game lags and the framerate just plummets. That means tag battles and Battle Royals will have your system experiencing a noticeable slowdown.

Overall, Sun/Moon are really solid first entries of a generation, despite some issues.

How are you enjoying these games so far?

I agree with everything you've said here!  Sun and Moon are really good games, but they are not the best games in the Pokemon franchise by far.

My Review Of Your Review

Positives: I agree with all of them.

Negatives:
-Small Pokedex = Don't mind it.
-Gen 7 Encounter Rate = Yeah I suppose but every game has difficult to find Pokemon, both from the current generation and previous ones. For example; Feebas still hasn't ever had a remotely easy method of being found.
-Too many cutscenes = You fuckin' sayin' that you don't like immersive story mate? You wanna die buddy? ;p
-Framerate drop = Apparently the newer consoles don't get this problem but my old 3DS has this problem and I definitely agree it is a little annoying but it's not that bad.

I agree with most of what you said. I'm a bit annoyed at the small amount of new Pokemon as well, plus some types are basically exclusive to the Alola forms this gen (ice is almost nonexistent outside of Sandslash/Ninetales, which are version exclusives, meaning you effectively only get the chance for 2 new ice types, and 1 completely original one). I found my team all facing a common weakness with not much to counteract it because of this strange type distribution, and even though you're offered Pokemon from older gens I really didn't want to have to use them.

That aside I think these games were probably the most solid and well-executed that I've seen in a while. It fixed a lot of problems, and while things like Super Training/EV Training in general were made a lot more tedious the games overall have a feel I can get behind. The island challenges were super fun and I was honestly upset that we didn't get even more, they're so creative and ingenious that I almost never want to go back.

We better not ever go back. I frickin' love the Island Challenge systems. I want more unique adventures than Gym-based Pokemon Leagues. Story-driven games like this and Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness are the best!

Yeah they are really fun! Gyms always felt pretty monotonous/easy most of the time with a few exceptions, and I think the focus on challenges this gen made the League seem all that more distant and exciting,

I agree. I also don't really like calling them "Gyms" in the other games. It just feels a little offputting y'know? They're not really Gyms. They're for testing skill rather than developing it.

I agree with everything you said. I haven't beaten the game yet, but I think your review is pretty spot on. I've noticed that my game lags if I'm in a specific battle and that's rather annoying.

I think one of the things that bothers me most is how I've just beaten the fire trial last night and I still have not seen very many Alolan Pokemon.

i dont mind the cutscenes... its like watching a game version movie (mini) and yeah they do limit you where you go..not a single game has been perfect now if only there was a game you can go to any region you can choose how you look.. which region you can start off in..  have shinies.. can choose to have your pokemon out have pokemon amie and the sun and moon version too(reminds me of nintenpets ..)make any poke treats like poke-blocks macarons and so forth... you can choose whatever you wanna be.. a gym supporter gym leader.. totem captain.. so forth..or rather lets not put in captains and gym leaders elite fours and such...that might just kill the game.. you can ride your pokemon not needing HMs they'll learn the move or they turn out to be tms instead of hms..yeah catching my drift? why not add PMD into the mix as if you can connect to this world and the human world.. thanks to certain pokemon.. ah but if its gonna have so many features... the game is gonna need bunches of servers and what not, anywho.

my question is....how to get your margeana however you spell that princess pokemon into your game(heard it was supposed to be in-game event along with ash-greninja) and how to get your greninja from the Demo into your game? .-.

i can't stand all the cut scenes, i've gotten so irritated i just mash the A button and don't even bother to read what they say anymore. also, kinda annoyed that they removed the option to view your trainer in detail like you could in X and Y.

No, because I wasn't stupid enough to go online before the game released. I just did a bunch of online stuff today and it worked fine.

I have the Galaxy NEW 3DS and I have yet to experience any frame rate issues. Maybe its just with the older consoles? Cause from my standpoint, its been smooth sailing over here. And this is coming from someone who rages over frame rate lag in FF14 on a daily basis during 24 man raids.

Me and one of my best friends got our preordered copies of Sun and Moon today and had a really fun time playing them! However, we both agree that Melemele feels a bit too much like a very guided tutorial in many places.

Is it posssible to trade with XY or Alpha/Omega players?
Also, is there a way to send Pokemon to a friend within the game?

You'll have to wait until January to transfer Pokemon from Gen 6 using PokeBank.
Trading is available though.

I'll totally play the Moon version if I had a 3DS, sadly.

as long as i dont need to grind in order to get through the game i really dont care how difficult it is XD
also considering i hate most of the new mons the first two negative points really dont bother me that much :''D and i kinda hoped they would have fixed the frame rate drops for this game
But hey it seems like fun, now i just need to wait until the game comes out in europe :I

From what I've heard the frame rate drop if only on the original 3DS and not on the New 3DS.

I have a New 3DS and it's still noticeable. It's not terrible, but it's there.
